I think that my grandfather and his brother may have been in Bungay on a
ground crew during WWII. I know that they were with the 8th AF, 2nd Division,
20th bomb wing, 446th bomb group, 706th squadron. I may not have those in the
right order. I don't know where they served at in England but from my research
it must have been Bungay. Their names were Murray A. Crutcher and Garvice C.
Crutcher. They were from Palestine, TX. My grandfather was Murray. He was my
hero and a great man. He died suddenly with a heart attack in 1989 at the age
of 68 and there isn't a day I don't think of him. My Uncle Garvice however is
still alive but he doesn't talk much about the past or the war. From what the
family remembers Poppa (Murray) had a Lt by the name of Lt Soda or something
like that. This Lt gave my grandfather a bomb with a flame on the top cut out
of the glass from a bomber that had been damaged. My grandfather kept it
always. I would love to know the story behind this glass flaming bomb. Please
e-mail me if anyone knew either of them or the Lt. and may can shed some light
on the story behind the glass flaming bomd. Thanks for your time. Sincerely,

I'm an associate member of the Second Division, second generation. But
first time I've visited your site, though I know about the group. I was
especially pleased to see "Old Glory" gracing your entrance since I write
about this Liberator and all the others that went down, and those that
survived, on the March 18, 1944 raid on Friedrichshafen in my book, "After the
Liberators: A Father's Last Mission, A Son's Lifelong Journey," the story of
that raid and how I came to learn about it in my search for my father's
history. Many 392nd BG people, living and dead, play a role in this account
either in the 1943 segments or in the mid 1990s. I recommend it to anyone
interested in celebrating and sharing our common legacy as members of a very
special family. Bill McGuire II
