He was assigned as Armed Guard in Trans-Atlantic convoy duty, in the Med., and later to the Pacific near the Aleutians. The Steele travelled the Atlantic and Med. including transporting troops, equipment, and supplies to the Normandy invasion. He saw action in Salerno, Naples, and D-Day at Normandy off Omaha Beach. Later, the Branch acted as an army transport in the Bering Sea near Attu Island.
