He was an Electrician's Mate 2nd class. He was involved in the Aleutians campaign and Okinawa Campaign. He was in the harbor on the USS Smalley during the surrender ceremonies Sept. 1945. His battle station at the Aleutians was on the search lights. He also worked as a repair party on the stern. At Okinawa, he was on picket patrol. His ship was attacked by at least one kamikazi aircraft and one torpedo attack while on picket duty at Okinawa.
