| While returning from mission #3 on August 28, 1943, to Oscherlden Germany, his plane was involved in a multiple plane collision caused by flak damage to one of the other planes. All four aircraft went down with no survivors. His body was recoved after the war found on the Island of Sylt many miles from the crash site over the North Sea. Final resting place is in the family cemetery in Garett Co., Md. Brother of Wolverton Delos Murphy, 40th Field Hospital. |
