He volunteered as State Guard during weekends at 13 years of age. He stood
guard at the Cumberland Armory during World War II. Later he volunteered for the US Air Force spending time at Headquarters
in Japan and Korea. He was injured during training by shapnel in 1950. He was sent overseas in April 1951 to Apirl 1955 when he served some time in Korea. On May 1st, 1953 he was injured by shell concussion in left ear.
