Mr. Stack's primary duty was company cook. His unit won 5 battle stars including St. Lo, Ardennes, Ardennes, and crossing Rhine and Roer Rivers. He was placed in a replacement depot after spending time in hospital due to some blood poisoning. Afterwards, walked for eight days to the front to find his battalion. He saw a cow lifted into a tree along the way. Many of the desparate fights were blanked from his memory. |
